Bafarela 17 Superior

Bafarela 17 are passionate wines. They are in themselves daring. They are wines with 17 degrees of alcohol and are only made when the grapes ripen. Above all, they are a telluric interpretation of the place where it originated, a part of the Douro where, during the ripening of the grapes, the heat is suffocating and the lack of water is constant.
Tasting Notes
A rich, deep colour; the intense aroma of wild fruits and flowers. Full-bodied, with firm tannins, but softened by acidity, resulting in a fresh wine, balanced and with a fresh, drawn-out ending. Powerful in the mouth, it’s a wine you can sink your teeth into. And that leaves a good impression.
Wine-making
The harvest took place in September. With careful selection on the vine, the grapes were completely picked and crushed. After pre-fermenting pellicular contact with cold for 48 hours, fermentation took place in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures and with a total soaking for over 40 days, but without great extractions.
The wine was then passed to stainless steel vats, where malolactic fermentation took place, and then it was aged for 12 months in new casks of French oak (500 Litres).

Serving suggestions
Bafarela 17 Superior is an amazing wine that goes with many seasoned dishes, namely traditional Portuguese dishes. With cheese from Serra da Estrela, for instance, the combination is perfect. It should be opened shortly before consumption so it can breathe and be at its best. Over time, sedimentation may occur which requires decanting. Serve between 15ºC and 16ºC.
Storage Instructions
The bottle should be placed horizontally, in a cool, dry place, protected from light.
