Bafarela Reserve
“This is a red wine from the Douro with a very pronounced character, reflecting all of the richness and quality of the region in creating the best wines of the lot with Portuguese varieties. Bafarela Red Reserve is part of the range of wines from Casa Agrícola Brites Aguiar.”
Tasting notes
It shows a lovely red, slightly violet colour. The intense aromas are dominated by red fruit, floral notes (violet) and spices. Intense and with a very characteristic profile, it’s a persistent wine, with a fresh, drawn-out ending.
Wine-making
The harvest took place in September. With careful selection on the vine, the grapes were completely picked and crushed. After pre-fermenting pellicular contact with cold for 48 hours, fermentation took place in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures and with a total soaking for over 40 days, but without great extractions.
The wine was then passed to stainless steel vats, where malolactic fermentation took place, and then it was aged for 10 months in 500 liter casks of French oak, of the first, second and third use.
Grape varieties
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela e Tinta Roriz.
Serving suggestions
Bafarela Reserve is an amazing wine that goes well with traditional Portuguese dishes, a variety of meats, cheeses and flavourful pastries. Try it as an appetiser with sharp and tangy cheese. It should be opened shortly before consumption so it can breathe and be at its best. Over time, sedimentation may occur which requires decanting. Serve between 17ºC and 18ºC.
Storage instructions
The bottle should be placed horizontally, in a cool, dry place, protected from light.
